Alpha Gamma Delta: Wing Jam
Annually, the Alpha Gamma Delta sisters of Auburn University, one of our long-time customers, hold an event called Wing Jam. What exactly is Wing Jam, you ask? It’s an annual charity benefit, started in 2004, to raise money in support of Diabetes Research. The AGD sisters have joined with Buffalo Connection, a local wing restaurant, which hosts the event. Every March, the back deck of the restaurant is set up to host a karaoke contest for their favorite philanthropic organization.
Each contestant of the karaoke contest pays a $25 entrance fee to sing. These contestants compete against each other, narrowing the field to three finalists based on the votes of the audience. Anyone attending can cast their votes by paying a $1-per-vote fee, and they can vote as many times as they like. The top three singers receive a cash prize at the end of the night, and the rest of the money is given to Diabetes Research.
At last year’s event, Wing Jam was crowded with over 700 students from the Auburn University, and the karaoke contest had 22 competitors. The Alpha Gamma Delta girls were able to raise more than $10,000. Kudus to the event organizers and participants alike! What a great way to raise money to help in the fight to battle this terrible disease.
