Philanthropy
Philanthropy is the contribution of time, money, and services to benefit a social cause. Philanthropy is an important aspect of being part of a Greek organization. Greek nationals and chapters sponsor charitable organizations through the donation of volunteer work and money.
The Delta Delta Delta sorority raises money to help support St. Jude’s Hospital for Children with leukemia. One of their classic fundraisers is a D-HOP, or Delta-House of Pancakes. At this event, all-you-can-eat pancakes are sold, and all the proceeds are donated to St. Jude’s. Tri-Delta’s goal is to raise over $10 million dollars in 10 years for St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
Pi Beta Phi sorority focuses on reading programs for children. Champion’s are Readers is Pi Phi’s month-long reading enrichment program to help third graders. Yearly, Pi Phi partners with First Book to donate thousands of books to children who can’t afford them.
The Kappa Alpha Theta sorority volunteers to help abused and neglected children. They become court appointed advocates to assist the courts through fact-finding. Information they secure enables the court to make better decisions which positively affect the future of the children they represent.
These are just a few of the cause championed by the Greek Community. In coming articles, we will highlight worthy charitable causes.
